"Geophysical forces and the stability of 3d viscous shear flows"Klaus WidmayerGoing back at least to the 1880s, the quantitative description of fluid dynamics near laminar flows is a classical topic of hydrodynamic stability theory. Despite much recent progress, many central questions remain unanswered even in basic settings. In this talk we will sketch some of the relevant mechanisms in a particularly simple setting ("Couette flow") and discuss the role of certain geophysical effects. This is based on joint works with M. Coti Zelati and A. Del Zotto. |
