"Homogeneous (tram) usage dispatch problem"Kahr, Michaeljoint work with: Markus Leitner, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Rosario Paradiso, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands; The planning process in a public transport company implies a sequence of strategic, tactical and operational decisions. In this work, we address the homogeneous usage dispatch problem encountered at Thalia Italia (who provide tram operators with tram management solutions). The aim is to assign trams to trips keeping the utilization of the fleet (measured in travelled distance) as homogeneous as possible. This is particularly important for the planning of maintenance operations and investment planning. We present a compact integer linear programming formulation, and a formulation that can be embedded into a branch-and-cut framework. Preliminary results based on real-world data are discussed. |
