"Alternating sign matrices and plane partitions"About Ilse Fischer:Ilse Fischer works in discrete mathematics, with an emphasis on enumerative and algebraic combinatorics, and its connections to statistical physics. In recent years, she and her doctoral students have mostly focused on one of the biggest mysteries in bijective combinatorics, namely the still unexplained relation between alternating sign matrices and plane partitions. She is very passionate about her work, and it would make her even happier to have more female colleagues so that society no longer misses this potential.Talk abstract: In my talk I will provide a brief introduction to alternating sign matrices and plane partitions, and a set of related problems my (former) doctoral students (and I) would love to solve. If time permits, I will also indicate relations to other areas such as representation theory, algebraic geometry, and even physics.om |
