"Expanding theoretical perspectives on senescence"Avila, PiretAging is a near-universal occurrence across the tree of life, yet its patterns exhibit remarkable variability not only between different species but also within species. A multitude of theories has been developed to explain aging at both the ultimate and the proximate level. However, these theories remain relatively disconnected, which contributes to our lack of coherent paradigmatic understanding of ageing. In this mini-symposium, our objective is to bring together experts who use diverse methods and theoretical frameworks to study senescence, encompassing evolutionary, demographic, and mechanistic viewpoints, and to foster better communication among these varied research and theoretical approaches. Organisers: Dr. Piret Avila, Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (piret.avila@iast.fr) Dr. Yagmur Erten, University of Jyväskylä (erten.yagmur@evobio.eu) |
