"Multiple cost strategies in the Hawk-Dove game under fixed and varying resources"Mulchrone, KieranHere we extend the Hawk-Dove game to take account of multiple cost strategies. We consider the evolution of populations under two resource scenarios (i) competition for a fixed resource and (ii) competition for a varying resource governed by the logistic equation. Our preliminary findings indicate that in the fixed resource scenario some level of coexistence occurs provided the resource is less than twice the highest cost. In the varying resource scenario, it is typically the subpopulations willing to expend lower costs to gain the resource that thrive. We interpret a fixed resource to be akin to finding a mate whereas a varying resource corresponds to limited resources such as food. We hypothesize that a successful subpopulation must balance low and high cost strategies. |
