"Evolution in graph-structured populations"

Iritani, Ryosuke

Numerous organisms exhibit complicated lifecycles in space and time. Understanding the effects of such complexity on the evolutionary dynamics of life-history traits has been one of the most challenging issues in evolutionary ecology. Here we present a mathematical method to derive the fitness proxy for general, irreducible graph-structured populations. We base ourselves upon the theory of adaptive dynamics and assess the invasion success of rare mutants emerging in such structured populations. We showcase the method by drawing a few trivial or nontrivial examples.
