June 9th - 15th 2024

Strobl, AUSTRIA

Strobl 2024 will offer special attractions:

- Five excellent speakers will give plenary talks.

- We will hold again a lively open-air poster presentation (if the weather allows) with an award for the best poster, separated in three poster sessions.
Two Poster Sessions on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, and a Poster Night planned on Thursday evening.

- We will again organize social events: a conference dinner on Monday, a jam session on Tuesday and a free afternoon on Wednesday afternoon (for excursion, ... please see below).

- Let us also remind you of the special flair of this conference: We will have a schedule which is not too tight; stay at a nice place, where most of the participants are accommodated. This setting allows for lots of opportunities to discuss mathematics with colleagues and to enjoy the beautiful nature of Austria.

- Wednesday afternoon: We will not have a single, organized excursion, but we suggest following options.

Option 1: Hike with Nicki Holighaus
If the weather permits, a hike to one of the mountains around Wolfgangsee will be offered. Please be aware that the hiking route will be moderately difficult (~700-1000m of height difference (one direction), 6h+ duration) and that the hiking excursion will leave before lunch. Prior experience with hiking in the mountains is not strictly necessary, in particular if you are a sporty person, but strongly recommended. Please approach Nicki Holighaus to if you consider joining and/or you have some questions, as he will guide the hike and select a specific tour.
Note: This excursion is a private event. Although the guide will do their best to ensure your safety, the responsibility is ultimately your own.

Option 2: Excursion with Diana Stoeva to Bad Ischl - "European Capital of Culture 2024, Bad Ischl Salzkammergut"
1:10pm: meeting point BIFEB reception to walk to Strobl Busbahnhof
1:36pm: Bus departs to Bad Ischl (arr. in Bad Ischl 2:02)
What to see in the spa town Bad Ischl?
E.g. we can take a stroll to the 19th Century Post Office building located in the heart of the town / visit the exhibition in connection with the European Capital Culture events KUNST MIT SALZ & WASSER, Sudhaus (around 4min walking distance from Bad Ischl Bahnhof) / visit Konditorei Zauner, a famous traditional Austrian pastry shop / walk in the center of the town / Further information for 12th June is available e.g. here.
Return options to Strobl e.g. dep. Bad Ischl Bahnhof 5:13pm, arr. Strobl Busbahnhof 5:34pm

Option 3: Climbing trip with Daniel Haider
I would offer to organize a trip to - and climb the famous via Ferrata "Drachenwand", one of the most beautiful via ferratas in the area with stunning views. It is rated as medium-hard and takes approximately 4 hours (1/2 h approach, 2 h climbing, 1 1/2 h descent). There is a bus connection from Strobl that takes 1/2 h and I would propose leaving before lunch, e.g. taking the connection at 11:45.
Required equipment:
- harness with via ferrata set
- good hiking boots, optimally approach shoes
- gloves
- helmet
I am pretty sure that there are possibilities to rent equipment in Strobl, and I have one extra via ferrata set. Feel free to approach me if you are interested in joining.
Note: Since I am not a mountain guide, I can only take people who are already experienced in climbing via ferratas!
